  His grave is located on the same side of the road as the Church. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vapittsy/history.htm The Chatham Post Office was first established " Pittsylvania County House" in 1794. Thomas Murdock, according to the records, served as first postmaster. He was chosen by authority of Postmaster General Timothy Pickering, who directed William Clark of Pittsylvania Court House to choose "a fit person" for postmaster.
