- [S230] Memoir, The Browns of Nottingham.
William came to America somewhat later than James for his first son Joseph was born in England in 1682. His first wife Dorothy died at sea and in America. On l3 day 8th mo. l684, William and Ann
Mercer "declared their intentions."
In an unindexed file in Historical Society in West Chester Pa. I found correspondence between Henry Armitt Brown and Gilbert Cope in regard to the Browns. There was also a record of a grant to
James Browne of land on Chichester Creek in 1683. James Browne gave the land, about 2 acres, for the meeting house and burial ground for Chichester meeting. In l68h a Walter Martin of Chichester sold his neighbor James Browne, who called his place Pudington, 60 acres of his land for 60# James was to pay 7 pence quit rent yearly to William Penn.
