Mary, I wanted to thank you for all your help on my Winston Brown-Milley Reynolds lineage. Thank you. Having had over 40 years in genealogy, I admit I neglected this line so much. I'll explain why to the list. Now for me, I am disabled due to stroke 12 yrs ago, was born in Martinsville on the headwaters of Turkeycock Creek! Grew up in NC where I am now and one of my families lived in Surry Cty NC before the lands became known as "Devotion".....I know you know all about Devotion...strong Reynolds connection. One of my gr-grandfathers was illegitimate and it said his father was a Reynolds....don't quite know about that. Spent today looking at DevinTimber..org.....fascinating! I have had my mtDNA tested years ago and am trying to find my maternal line, and at this point I am at Milley Reynolds Brown wife of Winston. Was so stunned Reynolds DNA at FTDNA was for men ONLY! Female mtDNA could do so much for us but I don't know where to look to submit mine. Do you? Is there a good/best place?

o continue as I have much to share: I have 2 DAR Patriots from Carroll Cty VA and Alleghany Cty NC. With Jesse Reynolds (and maybe his father) along with the others I have not applied for, it is mindboggling how many I could have. Strange! I do believe Milley Reynolds correct name was Parmelia, as that name was common at the time and continues in her line. I do think her husband Winston was a son (?) of Langston Brown. I have DNA matches with other Langston descendants as well as several other Browns, Braxton especially. Because cousins married cousins it is very hard to sort people out. I can be matching Braxton because of his mother who was a Brown also. Tangled mess! I know it is written that he was a brother of Frederick who married Nancy Reynolds, and Rebecca who married MA Brown, but I just don't think that is correct, because Frederick Brown Sr.s Will in KY names everyone except Winston. So to my thinking, he can't be a son of Frederick Sr. Langston, Rebecca and Frederick Jr. are named in the Will. Langston's family are not well known and another reason I think Winston belongs there. Now, there is a question if Langston had a first wife name Rebecca before he married Sarah Evans. Possible, more research needed.

Now Sarah Brown Reynolds, Jesse's wife. Still researching on that. Another mystery. Quakers. I have looked at Goose Creek MM records, so I'm familiar with that. Most of my Carroll Cty families came from Quaker stock, so I know it is very, very, very hard because of cousin to cousin marriages. Hoped I would not have to research that again but............got to do if you want answers. Interesting that some of the Pittsylvania familes ended up going to Westfield MM which is on Surry-Stokes Cty line. One interesting fellow is named Winston Brown, and of course I match his line on DNA. Surnames are common to both Pittsylvania and Surry. He was much younger that my Vincent Winston Brown, so he is a 2nd person.

This line is for my maternal grandmother Lelia Hurd, whose gr-gr-grandmother was Winston Brown's daughter. She was born in Patrick Cty, lived Pulaski and Tazewell, Martinsville in 1960's and buried at Chester VA. She lived until her 90's, born 1907. Her mother died when she was 10 abt 1919. Raised by step-mothers, she didn't know her family history beyond her grandmother. Well, all for now. Hope I haven't bored you too much. Feel free to copy and paste anywhere. Thank you for listening to me ramble.
