      Mr. Carter

      Nevel Odell Carter, 82, of 3400 Old Summerville Road, Armuchee, died Thursday morning at a Rome hospital.

      Mr. Carter was born Aug. 27, 1913 in Gordon County, son of the late James J. Carter and Callie Neal Carter. He was a longtime resident of Rome and Floyd County and was a member of Unity Baptist Church. Prior to retirement, he was employed at Trend Mills.

      Survivors include: his wife, Hattie Vandiver Carter, to whom he was married Oct. 2, 1940; two daughters, Ruby Lee Green and Shirley Young, both of Rome; (omitted in the article was daughter, Gwen Carter Smith, of Columbia, S.C.) a son, Robert Carter, Armuchee; (newspaper misspelled his son's first name - should have been spelled Ronald); two sisters, Betty Hayes and Mary Frances Dutton, both of Shannon; three brothers, Ewell Carter, Sherman, Texas, B.W. Carter, Flintstone and Lewis Carter, Trion; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
