      Interesting family. James J. Carter had sons named Robert Alexander Carter, Stonewall Jackson Carter, and James Edward Carter. Robert Alexander Carter married (1) Sarah Ann Lane and (2) Sarah Stone. He had a total of seventeen children and is buried in Trenton, Dade County, GA. Stonewall Jackson Carter was a minister and died prematurely at age 49. He married (1) Amanda H. Miller 7/10/1881 in Whitfield County, GA and (2) Nancy Catherine Patterson 7/21/1890 in the same county. He is buried in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Sonoraville, Gordon County, GA. Stonewall Jackson Carter had a total of eight children. James Edward Carter was born 1881 in Georgia and married Dora Bell Callahan ca. 1901 in Whitfield County, GA. He died after 1930. Dora Bell Callahan Carter is buried in West Hills Cemetery, Dalton, Whitfield County, GA. The couple had four sons named Samuel H., William Paul, James Doyle, and Lawrence E. Carter. I will have more for you tomorrow. I was not able to find James J. Carter born 1822 in the 1850 Census. Various census records indicate that he was born in either GA, NC, or SC. I think it is more likely that he was born in NC. I am still working on the identity of his parents.

His sister Ruby Lee Carter married a Walls and his sister Mary Joyce Carter married a Walton. James Doyle Carter was born 1905 in Whitfield County, GA. He married (1) Beatrice and (2) Mildred Arnold. James D. Carter died from a myocardial infarction 6/2/1963 in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN. I was not able to find him or his wives in cemetery records. James D. Carter is listed with his wife Beatrice and his stepchildren in the 1940 Muscogee County, GA Census. Lawrence E. Carter was born ca. 1907 in Whitfield County, GA and died after 1930. No additional information.

Carter the daughter by his first wife Margaret F. Raulston was born ca. 1907 in South Pittsburg, Marion County, TN. Margaret F. Raulston Carter was born ca. 1878 in TN. George A. Carter had two sons by his second wife named Clarence Allen Carter and George Milton Carter, both born in Birmingham, AL. Clarence A. Carter married (1) Edna E. Wolfe 10/4/1935 in Jefferson County, AL and (2) Electra Dickinson 11/1/1945 in Alabama City, Etowah County, AL. He and his second wife are buried in Forest Hills Cemetery, Birmingham, Jefferson County, AL. His first wife Edna E. Wolfe Carter is shown living singly in Birmingham, Jefferson County, AL in 1940. George Milton Carter married (1) Edith Cox and (2) Clara Adamson ca. 1988. He and his first wife are buried in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, Trussville, Jefferson County, AL. George M. He is listed as single in the 1940 Jefferson County, AL Census (Birmingham).

      On 1900 census James J. Carter 77, Malinda 52, Lizzie 22 (grandmother), James 19 (was called Bud. I went to his house several X's as a child), Robert here is my Uncle Bob, Aunt Mossie's son. He married Bertha Parsons and Emily Cummings. Uncle Bob didn't like his stepdad Jesse. Pearce so went to live with his grandparents.
