 Married Nancy Keith about 1769. He qualified as an Ensign in the Revolutionary War, May 24, 1779 (Orders, Bedford County, Virginia, 1774-82), and as Captain of the Bedford County Militia, June 22, 1789 (Orders, 1786-90). On March 19, 1784, warrants were issued to him and John Leftwich, Sergeant, for their services in the Militia of Virginia. He left a will of record in Bedford County, Virginia (W.B. "I", p. 285), dated July 7, 1830, probated February 26, 1838, in which he left all of his property to his wife, Nancy, for life and after her death to his son, Nicodemus Leftwich. The witnesses to his will were William Leftwich, William B. Leftwich and Dicy Chewning.
