Although she was shown as dying on July 20, 1878 and being buried in the Hanging Rock Cemetery in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky, she is apparently shown as his wife in the following 1880 Census of Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. Carter, listed as Other, age 43; Susan M. Stone, listed as daughter, age 11; and Martha J. Carter, sister of Charles, age 38. (Susan M. Stone was possibly a granddaughter instead of a daughter. - VPB)

Charles Ewell Carter died on August 21, 1910. He was buried as Charles E. Carter in the Duff Churchyard Cemetery in Duff, Grayson County, Kentucky. His wife Rhoda E. Carter was buried there with him after her death on January 2, 1913.
