      He married Martha Rebecca Whitehead on November 15, 1881 at Pine Hill Plantation, the home of his parents in Orange County, near Orlando, Florida. They had three children that died young and four who survived. He helped his father plant orange groves and a vegetable garden

      The family was planning to move back to Tallahassee when he died from typhoid fever. His wife, Martha Rebecca, and the children did move back to Tallahassee after his death.

      Funeral services were held at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church.
