CALLANDS - Samuel Clifton "Sammie" Marlowe, 94, of 621 Deer Haven Dr., Callands, died Friday, January 22, 2010, at his home.
Born March 21, 1915, in Henry County, Mr. Marlowe was a son of the late Claude Andrew Marlowe and Ruth Reynolds Marlowe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Finney Marlowe and later by his second wife, Jenero Robertson Marlowe; by a son, Wayne Marlowe and by two brothers, Cecil A. Marlowe and Basil A. Marlowe.
Mr. Marlowe was member of County Line Christian Church where he served as an elder, church trustee and cemetery trustee.
He was retired as minister of Forest Hill Christian Church, Penhook, where he served from 1952 until 1967 and was instrumental in establishing and ministering to many Christian churches and Churches of Christ in Campbell County, Pittsylvania County, Henry County and Franklin County.
Mr. Marlowe is survived by a daughter, Irene Marlowe Tarburton of Bel Alton, Md.; two sons, Charles E. Marlowe and Gerald R. Marlowe, both of Callands. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday, January 25, at 11:00 a.m. at County Line Christian Church with Minister Dean Ashby, Minister Tim Maness and Minister Lewis Hall officiating.
