They had moved to Taylor, ?Warren Co.,? MO by March 1831, possibly very recently because her mother asks for a quick reply to her letter and wants to know "whether you are pleased with the country." Three names are listed at the bottom of a letter written by Hery's mother in 1831. (The names are written in different ink and a different hand.) The names are: E lesethabeth (sic) Virginia Adkins, Herodias Adkins, and Henry Adkins. Since John W. Adkins is Hery's husband, my guess is that John was listing his wife and children's birthdates. Therefore, Henry Adkins was born the 13th of December (no year given).

In this same letter from Sarah Reynolds to John and Herodias, Sarah mentions that "Joseph Atkins his wife and the whole family have lately returned again to the neighborhood." I don't know if this Joseph is a brother, father, or other close relative to John, but he probably is related in some way or Sarah wouldn't have mentioned it.
[Joseph Adkins is John Ward Adkins' eldest brother-Mary Frances Eggleston]

John Ward Adkins and Herodias Reynolds were married on November 10, 1828 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Even though it has been stated that Henry Gilmore was born in Virginia in 1833, that has been proven false because Sarah Reynolds wrote a letter to Herodias telling her of her fathers death in March 1831 and sent to Taylor PO in Warren Co., Mo. John?s first known land purchase in Warren Co. is in Sept. 1832. All children appear to have been born in Warren Co., Missouri.
JOHN ADKINS MILITARY SERVICE: ML LAND WARRANT NO. 32428 FOR LAND IN WARREN CO., MO.
In my records from 30 years ago (now 2012) I have a note that on July 15, 1849 John Ward Adkiins received land in Warren County Missouri under "M.L. Warrant No. 32528", this land was received in Warren County and he was the only John Adkins there to my knowledge. In the 1950's a Reverend Herbert Zeiler came to be the pastor of the little Brethern Church in Fairview Township of Henry Co., Mo. He was immensely interested in genealogy and he had all the members working on their genealogy. I still have some of the papers from the time he was here and gained a good deal of information from them. I was only about ten years old when the Rev. served the church, but I still remember him. On the John Ward Adkins and Herodias Philpot paper written by either Rev. Zeiler or one of the family, it is written that John fought in the MEXICAN WAR OF 1846 & 1847.
The following is also written on this paper:
"John Ward Adkins of Virginia and his wife Herodius (Philpot) Adkins migrated to Missouri in the early 1830's and settled at Warrenton in Warren County. John fought in the Mexican War of 1846 & 1847. Later in the 1850's the family moved to Henry County, Missouri when Sarah Ann was 8 months old and settled on the farm that was located one mile east and one mile south of LaDue (Henry Co.) Mo. where they built a frame house. The Philpot family was prominent in Virginia History throughout the Colonial days and down through the Revolutionary War, to the forming of the United States government. John and Herodius had five children all born in Warren Co., Mo. On October 10, 1870 (John would have been about 62) there was a dispute that had been going on for months over some hogs and road right-of-way between John W. Adkins and a Mills and a Bysor. They had their guns and fired and Mills was killed instantly. The situation got hot but no one was arrested. The authorities couldn't find out if Bysor or Adkins shot Mills but Adkins left the country and sent from Arkansas a deed to the widow Mrs. Mills for 40 acres of land in Henry County.

John married Herodias Philpott Reynolds 10 Nov 1828, Henry County, Virginia. Herodias (daughter of John Devin Reynolds and Sarah Ann "Sally" dna Philpott) was born 6 Nov 1808, Pittsylvania County, Virginia ; died 17 Oct 1877, Henry County, Missouri; was buried , Adkins Cemetery, Henry County, Missouri. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Herodias Philpott ReynoldsHerodias Philpott Reynolds was born 6 Nov 1808, Pittsylvania County, Virginia (daughter of John Devin Reynolds and Sarah Ann "Sally" dna Philpott); died 17 Oct 1877, Henry County, Missouri; was buried , Adkins Cemetery, Henry County, Missouri.

    Notes:

Herodias was named by her mother, Sarah Philpott, for her
sister, Herodias "Holly" Philpott. Herodias is called
"Hery" by her mother in a letter dated 25 Mar 1831
notifying her of her father's death.

John Devin Reynolds is the 2nd son of Joseph M. Reynolds and his wife, Margaret Devin. Named for his Uncle John, and his Mother's Maiden name [Devin], he was born in 1783. He died 18 Mar 1831. His death was not an easy one. He writhed in agony from what we know today, as kidney stones, and after 9 days, finally succumbed to his exhaustion. His wife, described his agony and mortification in a letter to her daughter, Herodias in Missouri.

Because John's father, Joseph M. Reynolds had two wives, he enjoyed the company of 17 siblings. Eldest brother, Hugh is beginning his family in the same year his father produces his final heir.

Absolute documented proof, and multiple dna matches, confirm the father of Joseph M. Reynolds, and grandfather of John Devin Reynolds, is Hugh Reynolds of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Pittsylvania County Virginia.

John married Sarah Ann "Sally" dna Philpott 19 Jul 1808, Henry County, Virginia . 6. 15.  Elizabeth Garrett was born 1753, Charles County, Colonial Maryland (daughter of John Philpott Garrett and Elizabeth Hackney); died 1793, Henry County, Virginia.

    Notes:

Elizabeth Garrett was married to Mr. Jeremiah Mocoboy [Mockbee] before she married Charles Thomas Philpott. She is the daughter of John Garrett.

Elizabeth Garrott, dau of John Garrott who died in 1775/1776 first married Jeremiah Mockoboy (aka Mockbee). He was the son of Brock Mockbee & Rachel Gore, according to your notes. Elizabeth must have married him in 1776 or 1777 and he died during the same time period. Couldn't have lived long after their marriage which makes sense because she didn't have any children by him. Jeremiah was living in Frederick County in 1775/1776 when he was listed as a member of the Associators at Frederick County, Maryland (along with John Garrott and Thomas Odell and Charles Thomas Philpott). By the way, I once told you that John Garrott Sr. was a member of the Associators. I can't prove it but I think it was actually John Garrott Jr. The name on the list did not have Sr. or Jr. which, as you know, usually indicates that there was only one living. JG Sr. probably died the end of 1775. I think the list was made in 1776 and covered a time period that included both 1775 and 1776, though I'm not certain of it.
