    These named children are found on census records. Martha Carter's headstone/cemetery record show no maiden name;

    This James T. Carter married Martha McCann in Halifax and lived there all of his life. He and Martha sold land to family members, Addison Lafayette Edwards and his wife, Sallie Frances Powell, [d/o Mastin Powell,] in Halifax Co. Based on that fact, and the several other James T. Carters named for him, it is probable that he is family. Deeds define the relationships of Powells, Edwards, Carters, Wesleys who intermarry in Halifax in the 19th century are neighbors. The land he sold to Edwards is land owned by his wife's father, Paul Wesley. Addison Edwards, s/o James M. Edwards married Sarah Frances 'Sallie Fannie' Powell, eldest d/o Mastin Powell.
