The same year was ordained to the ministry was for some time Pastor of that church was also pastor of Kentuck, Upper Banister, Sandy Creek, and Mill? Churches; in addition to these Pastoral duties, he performed valuable service as an evangelist, in Henry, Bedford, Halifax, Charlotte and Mecklenburg Cos. Va and Person, Caswell and other counties NC. He was a member of the Roanoke Missionary Society and was one of the Collecting Agents and was frequently the ______ of the Roanoke Association. The __ of his life, he was called to preach in Caswell Co., NC Before leaving home he said to his son, "if ___________ before ___________ I will Thursday. He ________ yesterday, [released to his soul] was taken sick and died _______________. He was a man of bold and commanding figure, and found _________ grace __________ and a just and fair representative as a minister honored and beloved.

The copy of this text is badly degraded and many words are questionable; no mention is made of a wife; presumably there was one who brought him a son. Further research is underway. The RWA of Jesse Reynolds, s/o William of Culpepper Reynolds says that He (Jesse) names Rev. William Blair as a Character Witness in 1833. It is believed that William of Culpepper Reynolds also came to Pittsylvania County in or around 1781. Several items in the Christine Reynolds Reynolds Memoir do not match facts later learned. She states that William Blair, husband of Sarah Sutter died on one date, but another child is listed born two years later. We have Jesse Reynolds RWA stating Rev. William Blair can vouch for his character in 1833. He could not have died before 1833. - Further research is underway - Mary Frances Reynolds Eggleston

Think I found where William Blair is probably buried " Sometime during the 1780's they migrated to Pittsylvania Co., Va. They lived on Tommy Hawk Creek where he died in 1790." William's son Samuel Brittain Blair Sr. home/farm and burial is off RT 750 near Rondo,Va. Tomahawk Creek is right where the farm and building are.I believe I found the "dirt road abt. 1 mile on RT 750 from RT 58 at Rondo" Soon...I'm going to check this out,soon.-Sammy Blair

Hugh Reynolds, his grandson, s/o Joseph and Peggy Devin Reynolds would only be 17 years old in 1797; therefore this list must refer to Hugh, the original settler in Pittsylvania County.

3 Aug 1771 Va Patent Bk. 40 p. 551, Pittsylvania Co., Hugh Reynolds received patent for 298 acres on waters of Banister River adjoining land of Nealy & Roberts (Doc. 1140)

Hugh Reynolds, William Devin, and William Neely are found on the same tax lists in 1757-1759 of Martock 'Martic', Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Records for Hugh's marriage to Mary Neeley are found in the Rev. Cuthbertson diaries and document the marriage of Hugh, as well as the Baptism of Joseph, and William, his eldest son. Birth record has been located for the birth of William, who is named in the Will of his grandfather, William Neeley, and left William his land, in 1791. Joseph, the 2nd son, was already married to Margaret Devin and was left his grandfather's other possessions. The Mother of these children is also named in this will as 'Mary Reynolds'. In the Cuthbertson records, she is seen as Mary K.

On 04 Nov 1774 Hugh Reynolds bought 57 acres on the south side of Tomahawk Creek in Pittsylvania County, Virginia from William Nealey. (DB 4/91). This is probably the same tract of land listed as 65 acres on the land tax list from 1782 through 1809. After his death, this land went to his son, William Reynolds.

"His requests for land patents (almost 1200 acres) are recorded in the Land Entry Book, 1737-1770. He may not have received all this land, but it proves he was living here in order to request the surveys." - Anna Evans 1993 Lineages
    *********
On 15 Apr 1783 Hugh Reynolds bought 105 acres on Tomahawk Creek from Killian Kreek for 15 pounds. This is the 105 acre tract shown on the land tax list from 1786 through 1809. At his death, this property went to his son, William Reynolds.

In 1782, the General Assembly of Virginia enacted new legislation providing for the enumeration of the owners of real property in each county. The owner's of each parcel of land were recorded. If a person owned more than one parcel, his name appeared multiple times, one for each tract of land he owned. Hugh Reynolds appears on the 1782 land tax list of Pittsylvania County, VA with 65 acres of land. This is the parcel which he purchased from William Nealey in 1774. For the next three years, only revisions to the land tax list were recorded. From 1786 forward, the list included all properties, not just the revisions from previous years. From 1786 to 1809 Hugh Reynolds appears on the land tax list with two parcels, one of 65 acres and the other of 105 acres. In the 1810 list William Reynolds, son of Hugh, is listed as the owner of these two parcels. This shows that Hugh Reynolds died between the dates of these two tax lists.

20 Feb 1792 WILLIAM REYNOLDS order to Record Inventory
22 Mar 1796 WILLIAM REYNOLDS, Plaintiff, Lewis Charles, Defendant (Young William of Hugh)
-There are two William Reynolds here; William 'of Culpepper' is the elder and the young man William Reynolds is the grandson of William Nealey and the son of Hugh Reynolds and Mary Nealey.
-William 'of Culpepper' Reynolds died in 1791, so the two entries in this record in 1791 and 1792 may apply (probably do) to the elder William or his son, William. The William of Culpepper family lived on the opposite side of the County; to date, 2017, there is no evidence that the two Reynolds families are related or intermarried.

    Name:
Hugh Reynolds is found on the tax lists of Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania along with a William Reynolds who comes of age a year or two before Hugh. Hugh and the Nealeys and Devins whose families intermarry in Virginia is likely a brother of this William Reynolds who marries Margaret Patterson in Lancaster, PA, and is recorded in the diaries of the Rev. John Cuthbertson. The dna matches to this Reynolds line suggest that William migrated to the area near Ohio or the mid-west. Further research finds Neelys in Rowan County, NC and Statesville, NC., as well as in Martock, Lancaster, PA.

William Devin, Senior of Virginia was born in Dublin, Ireland and came to America in 1745 or 1746. In 1750, he married Sarah Smith and settled in what is now Pittsylvania County, Virginia. --The Devin Family, page 1.

'Sarah Smith _____'. No documents have been found to
support her last name except for a manuscript by Dessa
Hoffstetter. However, its source is suspect.

Not named in will of her husband which was dated 25
    November 1800.
Dessa's booklet mentions a letter to Alfred Harrison Devin
written by Rev. Robert Ira Devin son of James, son of
