11. | Martha Thompson was born 1679, Carlisle, City of Carlisle, Cumbria, England; died 1762, Orange Co., Virginia Colony; was buried , Taylor-Quarles Family Cemetery Orange, Orange County, Virginia. Notes:
Martha Thompson married James Taylor II on February 23, 1699 in Virginia. James II, the husband of Martha, was granted 13,000 acres of land in what became Orange County and he built Bloomsbury about 1722. He divided his vast holdings among his children. George received Midland (now Yatton), James III got Bloomsbury, Erasmus got Greenfield and Zachary got Meadowfarm. It is believed that James II and his wife, Martha, were buried at Bloomsbury in the Taylor-Quarles Cemetery on the property, since this was their original homestead. The photo of the cemetery shows the Taylor section in the back with no markers within the brick walls. The Quarles family have the 4 existing markers in the front section by the gate. Additionally, James II and Martha are not buried at Meadow Farm; this cemetery has been fully photographed and everyone has been accounted for with a grave marker or plaque. The James Taylor I Association believes Martha died at and was buried on the Greenfield Plantation, the home of her son, Erasmus, but she does not have a grave marker there.
James and Martha had 12 children, 7 of which are linked to them on their memorials. The other 5 are:
Tabitha Taylor 1713-1794, who married Thomas Wilde in 1756
Hannah Taylor 1718-1762, who married Nicholas Batille/Battaile
Mildred Taylor 1724-1790, who married Richard Thomas in 1753
