According to the book ?Footprints From The Old Survey Books of Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties In Virginia? by Roger C. Dodson, Wilkins Pond was located on James Turner?s 364-acre track granted Sept 28, 1760. It would have been just up stream on Lawson?s Creek from James Turner's northeast property line (S52E 106 chains), which adjoined William Turner?s 212-acre grant dated Sept 18, 1760.
According to stories from the book ?Halifax County Virginia Heritage 1752-2007?, Abner Holt Richardson was the son of Josiah Richardson and his wife Elizabeth Stanfield Richardson. Elizabeth was the daughter of John S. Stanfield and his wife Susannah Harrison, John S. was the son of Marmaduke Stanfield and his wife Mildred Banks, Marmaduke was the son of Thomas Stanfield and his wife Mary Dalton. Marmaduke had a brother named Thomas that was probably born about 1730, that could have been your Thomas Stanfield (guardian of Turner boys) who died in 1796.
Irvin?s Ferry is shown on a website called ?Halifax County Virtual Tours, South of the Dan Historic Tour? (http://www.oldhalifax.com/county/SouthoftheDanTour.htm). There it explains that ?the stage coach route from Norfolk [Virginia] to Milton, North Carolina, came through old South Boston [Virginia] crossing the [Dan] river about 4 miles upstream at Irvin's Ferry. The coach would have stopped at the "Bloomsburg" store and post office at Glenn's corner and then headed south on Mount Carmel, or Stage Road, now Wilkins Road?. If you go to the above referenced site there is a map. On the map route 699 is Wilkins Road. Wilkins Pond was on route 701, that intersects 699. Route 701 which is now called Mill Pond road.
