John Carter, is the husband of Oney Pollard and a 1st wife, whose last name is Vaughan, a daughter of James Vaughan and Lucy Jeter. Peyton Carter, whose line this is, now believes Oney Pollard is the 2nd wife of John and the first wife, Vaughan is the mother of all three of his children. Mary Elizabeth Carter, James Ryland 'Riley' and Beverly Atwood Carter. We believe it is likely that the Vaughan Mother of these children is Mary Elizabeth, and that this child would have been named for her Mother, who died at her birth.
