    Catherine Sprawls

    TULIA - Catherine Sprawls, 86, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005.

    Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First United
    Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor,
    officiating. Her body was donated to Texas Tech Medical
    School. Arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

    Mrs. Sprawls was born March 10, 1918, in Swisher County.
    She grew up in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School.
    She graduated from West Texas State in Canyon with a degree
    in English and Spanish. She married J.R. Sprawls. She
    taught school in New Mexico and Tulia for many years. She
    was a member of First United Methodist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953; a sister,
    Mattie Devin; and five brothers, Robert Devin, Lloyd Devin,
    Clayton Devin, Edward Devin and Albert Devin.

    Survivors include a daughter, Lana Carlton and husband,
    Jim, of Tulia; a son, Jan R. Sprawls of Tulia; a
    granddaughter, Jessica Hatley and husband, Jeremy, of
    Lubbock; a brother, Delbert Devin and wife, Betty, of
    Tulia; a sister, Lenna Allen of Canyon; and four
    sisters-in-law, Mildred Devin of Reno, Nev., Margaret Devin
    of Canyon, and Virginia Devin and Pat Devin, both of Tulia.

    The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.

    Catherine married Jesse Richmond Sprawls. Jesse died 1951. [Group Sheet]
