Frank enjoyed fishing in the nearby Snake
River often
catching Salmon, Steelhead and Sturgeon.
They later
moved to Southern California.

! When Frank was six, he and his brothers and sister were
placed in an
orphanage in Thomasville, North Carolina. At age 15, the
children were removed
by their step father, James McNiell, and he moved them to
Asotin, Washington.
Frank had great admiration for his step father. (According
to letter received
from Atha Ledford, wife, 1992).

! Jennie Johnson (a distant relative of President Lindon
Johnson) re-married
after the death of her first husband (1900) to James
McNiell. He as Frank
Ledford's step father was able to get Frank, at age 15, and
siblings out of an
orphanage in North Carolina and move them to Asotin,
Washington.
