NOTE: James Bibb (Bibbey) was born possibly as early as 1610, and came to America in 1629 with Baron DeSauce. It is not known where he was born or who his parents were, but he obtained some land, and in 1685, on 10 May, he deeded his land to his son, Benjamin Bibb. He was probably a very elderly man at the time. "Various examples have led me to infer that when they "retired", land-holders often deeded their lands to their sons or sold those lands ."(Bibb Family in America).

The Bibb family roots run deep in Virginia, going back to 1642. Fortunately, the Bibbs were not a highly migratory group. After arriving in Virginia, the main branches were found in the counties of Amherst, Nelson and Louisa. Today, many of the descendants of these founding families can still be found in Virginia, especially in these counties. Growing up, I often heard stories about my grandfather, Bland Bibb's, family and I often wondered how true these stories were. In 1977, I moved to Richmond, VA, where I had access to the Library of Virginia and became interested in genealogy. This was long before the internet so I spent many hours at the library pouring over microfilm and dusty, old books gleaning information. I was able to confirm some of the family stories with facts and records...I was hooked! I have created this page for other Virginia Bibb families, who want to share stories, records, genealogy tree information, or just ask for help in discovering the wonderful stories our ancestors left for us! If you are interested, my genealogy tree is on Ancestry.com. I have had my DNA done and that also is on Ancestry as well as GedMatch. Please pm me if you would like access to this information. I prefer to keep this page public, unless there comes a time when it makes sense to go closed. This is not the place for rudeness, debates or arguments.
