Robert E. Olewine, Sr., age 87, of Elkton, MD, died at home on Tuesday, February 7, 2006, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in Weatherly, PA, and was the son of the late George Robert and Miriam Grace Montz Olewine. He graduated from Weatherly High School in 1936 and moved to Elkton, MD. He served in World War II in Company E, 115th Infantry, 29th Division. Bob was the owner of the Elkton Furniture Mart, where he was in business for 30 years. When he retired and sold his business to Jodlbauer's Furniture, he received many kind letters from former customers. Bob was a member of many organizations including Union Lodge #48 AF&AM, of which he was Past Master. He also belonged to Tall Cedars of Lebanon #142, Nur Temple, American Legion Cecil Post #15, Susquehanna Shrine Club of Boumi Temple, Eastern Star Chapter #84 OES, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Elkton Kiwanis and the Elkton Town Band. He was also a past director of the Peoples Bank of Elkton and a member of Elkton United Methodist Church. He loved nature, gardening, riding on his tractor, and cutting his neighbor's grass. He grew many different kinds of fruit trees and loved giving his fruit away to many friends and neighbors. He also loved boats and golfing. His home on the river brought him great joy and the ducks and geese on his pond looked forward to his morning and evening visits. He loved all forms of wildlife.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Reynolds Olewine, to whom he was married for 63 years; his children, Joyce Cosgrove, and her husband, Howard, Rockland, DE and Chesapeake City, MD, Carol Lee Wetzel, and her husband, Rick, Lansdale, PA, and Robert E. He will also be missed by his faithful cocker spaniel, Taffy, who rarely left his side. Bob will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Carrie, and his family.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Barbara Blendy, who cared for him during his last days. They are also most grateful for the wonderful and kind people from Seasons Hospice.
