Povall Carter II married Martha Davis in 1790, a daughter of William Davis and Elizabeth Davis of Cumberland/Powhatan County. Povall and Martha moved to Prince Edward County about 1800/1801. They had a son Wilson Carter who married Sarah Davis of Cumberland County in 1815. Sarah was a daughter of Jesse Davis and Elizabeth Guthrey. I haven't been able to find Jesse's parents or his siblings. I expect he was the Jese who was xcummunicated in 1789 from the Bethlehem Baptist Church according to Reverend Rene Chastain's notes. He also noted that Elezibeth Guttry was gone from the membership of the Buckingham Baptist Church.. Elizabeth Guthrey was a daughter of Alexander Guthery. It is possible that Jesse Davis went first to Powhatan County and settled in Cumberland County and later in Lynchburg Virginia.where he had some kind of tobacco related business.
I haven't been able to built a bridge between my Davises and your set of Davises or of James Carter and my Carters.

Mary had a brother named Robert Venable Davis who married Lucy Jane Patterson 1837 in Pr. Edward. Two of his sons, Watkins Spencer Davis and Samuel Henry Davis went to Kentucky...in a letter to the family Robert Davis wrote.. moved to Morganfield, Union Co. KY at an early age.
