Stephen Carter along with George W. Higgins founded Bellefonte. They bought the Indian Reservation of Cherokee James Riley and owned land in Jackson Co before Al became a state. In 1972(when I first started investigating) the tombstone of Lewis White Carter, born September 24, 1836, died August 7, 1837, was the only tombstone I found. Others who visited it in the past said there was a stone with S.T. C. Hand-carved on it. This may have been your Sarah and the infants name indicates it may be her son because of the name Lewis.
