Comments (Suggest a change: Stephen F. to Alabama Carter (I67746)): I don't need a copy but I would like to add to your information. I am writing a book on Bellefonre, Al and her pioneers. Stephen Carter along with George W. Higgins founded Bellefonte. They bought the Indian Reservation of Cherokee James Riley and owned land in Jackson Co before Al became a state. I was delighted to find this info on Stephen Jr as nobody has known much about him. Thank you for sharing.

I wrote a history and genealogy column on the local paper for ten years. All the columns and what records I had then were copied by LDS and are in their library. Oh, local records list Sarah's middle name as TERRELL or TERREL. [Genealogy of the Lewis Family suggests she is named for her mother's maiden name (Thomas)] https://www.google.com/books/edition/Genealogy_of_the_Lewis_Family_in_America/fu4wAAAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=Maryland
      _______
"Near Bellefonte there is a small abandoned graveyard where members of a Carter family are buried. In 1972(when I first started investigating) the tombstone of Lewis White Carter, born September 24, 1836, died August 7, 1837, was the only tombstone I found. Others who visited it in the past said there was a stone with S.T. C. Hand-carved on it. This may have been your Sarah and the infants name indicates it may be her son because of the name Lewis.
