  The Carter Family Tree, by Avis Carter Turner Elijah Carter, s/o Abraham Carter and Matilda, his wife. married Amelia Ann Sprouse on July 28 1881; Death records for Elijah Carter in Henry Co., VA June 1, 1867; died of pleruisy; age 83; parents Abraham and Matilda Carter of Patrick County; wife Nancy. Some believe Elijah married his brother Samuel's wife, Nancy after Samuel died. Others believe the Nancy menitoned in the death records was his daughter and that she cared for him in his old age. Court recors are not always exact--note birth dates for Elijah. We figure from 1860 Census he was born in 1782 and from Death Record we can figure 1784.
