Russanne B. Foster
Russanne Brown Foster, 59, of Elkton, MD, became an angel Sunday, March 2, 2014, after a 3-year battle against the cancer, leiomyosarcoma.
Born on September 22, 1954, to the late Russell R. and Mary Ann Reynolds Brown of Chesapeake City, MD, she graduated from Bohemia Manor High School in 1972. She continued her education at Delaware Technical School, receiving her degree as a dental assistant.
On May 20, 1978, she married Michael Day Foster and they were together for almost 36 wonderful years. She worked for more than 30 years in the dental profession for Drs. Leatherwood, Lipman and Phillips, excelling at her chair-side manner as her many patients can attest. Mrs. Foster was an accomplished organist since her mid-teens, owning her own Hammond B-3 organ. She played at many weddings and other occasions, and in the early years, she and her brother, Russell, entertained the local crowd at the Kitty Knight House. Best known as the Sunday service organist for her church, First Presbyterian Church of Chesapeake City, she served her community well, organizing many dinners for the County homeless shelter when her church was called upon to be the host. She was an active member in the Chesapeake City Ecumenical Association, a previous PTA member, a Girl Scout leader and an active mother making a point to never miss any of her children's activities. She and 11 other women formed a bond that lasted over 25 years, playing the popular social game, Bonco.
Her greatest accomplishment was being a loving and caring wife, mother, and a friend to all she met. Mrs. Foster deeply wished to be remembered as someone who always tried to do good and welcomed new family members with open arms and heart.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Christopher Day Foster and wife, Rukmini, Rockville, MD, and Hillary Dae Marinelli and husband, Dennis, East Falmouth, MA; granddaughters, Elizabeth Day Foster and Natalie Dae Marinelli; and siblings, Robin Brown, Chesapeake City, MD, and Russell Brown, Smyrna, DE.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harold, Sr. and Marion Reynolds; and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Anna Brown.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, March 7, at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Chesapeake City; or to Meeting Ground; or to Deep Roots, Inc., in care of the funeral home.
