    2. [S73] Deeds, George Carter of Pittsylvania to Samuel Atkinson of Cumberland.
9 Feb 1779 (PDB5/149) from George Carter of P, to Samuel Atkinson of Cumberland Co., for 1000~, 450 acres in P on the branches of the Lower Double Cr. of Dan River, bounded by pine pointers near the old road, then to Colo Wilson, the Great Branch, Richd Carter. Signed - George Carter. Wit - Richd Carter, Robert Waltrs, John Atkinson, Mary, the wife of the sd George Carter, relinquished her right of dower to the lands within mentioned. Recorded 20 Apr 1779. [Richard Carter GS is dead in July 1778, as his inventory is returned, therefore this is Richard (Tailor)] George's wife is Mary. The implication of this record is that both families of Richard the Tailor and Richard the Gunsmith Carter are acquainted, as Richard Gunsmith could not have witnessed this deed after his death.
George Carter and Richard Carter associated with Samuel Adkinson and John Adkinson of Cumberland. William V. Adkinson of Pittsylvania County remains in Pittsylvania.
