DAR #63798. - "The name of Solomon Carter appears on the roll of Captain Charles Ellis's Company of Albemarle Co., VA in the Virginia Militia. The records of Amherst County, Virginia also show he furnished supplies for the Revolutionary Army."

Miller, John Lyon. THE DESCENDANTS OF CAPT. THOMAS CARTER OF "BARFORD", LANCASTER COUNTY, VIRGINIA. Harrisonburg, VA: C.J. Carrier Co. ,1982. Page 227-228. "Solomon Carter [son of Peter, son of Thos(2) ,son of Thos(1), born Sept. 25, 1739, probably King George, died Amherst, Sept. 28, 1786 *.

In 1767 had a grant of land in Albemarle near Amherst line, and had other land in Amherst by deed. In 1783 was head of family of eight and two servants. Will, probated in 1786, left land and good personal estate to wife, Mary Anne Carter, and following children: A. William, head of family of three in 1783; B. See our Bio for both Mary Ann (probably) Childress AND Mary Ann Bickley, now proven wife of Dale.

      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The question of Mary Ann Childress Carter Goodrich - not proven, but strong circumstances:
(a marriage to Solomon has to be back in either Louisa or Amelia County)

      b) According to Dr. Miller, Solomon died Sept. 28, 1786 - proven false by above citation from LVA.

Fantasy: "His will, probated 2 October 1786, divided a good estate between his wife Mary Ann and ..... "

Fact: "I leave to my wife Maryann Carter one shilling to be paid out of my Est. Item, whereas my wife has left me and cohabits with another Man if she should have any Children after this I leave to Each of them one Shilling to be paid out of my Est"

      c) Fantasy: "Note from Van A. Stilley, Wilmington, NC. "The widow Mary Carter married John Goodrich on 20 September 1786 in Amherst Co. Apparently the marriage ended the court adultery matter as recorded in the November court order".

Fact: p. 572. Nov. Ct. 1786: "The Presentment of the Grand Jury against John Goodrich and Mary Carter the wife of Solomon Carter for living in adultery is continued."

      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we have some intrigue from The Childress - which is about "95% Proof" that wife of our Solomon was Mary Ann CHILDRESS Carter Goodrich, who is now PROVEN to have had the Bastard John Childress before the start of her affair with John Goodrich!
