Biography
Nathaniel Bradford
Note: there are several dates that don't match up.
Is his birth date 1625 or 1661? If 1661, the immigration was before his birth
Is his date of death 1690 or 1720? Many sources state 1690.
. NATHANIEL BRADFORD (1625 Eng. - 1690 Accomack Co, VA) m. 1. Alice Smith 2. Joan (Jeane) Franklin
NATHANIEL BRADFORD, Accomack Co., VA Immigrated about 1650 possibly to Northampton Co VA Family generally described as 'Planters'.There are NO Bradfords listed in the book: COUNTY COURT RECORDS OF ACCOMACK-NORTHAMPTON, VIRGINIA 1640-1645 edited by Susie M. Ames.
In 1697 Colonel Scarburgh petitioned that his competitor, NATHANIEL BRADFORD, a currier by trade, should be punished for his failure to perform the duties, which the law imposed upon all who followed that business. Bradford was the owner of a tan-house and a shoemaker's shop, and at the time of his death was in possession of 318 hides and 46 lasts! Such competition was not welcomed by Scarburgh. [Currier > cures or tans hides] [1]
Note: is this a lawsuit against his son? This is after his death
"...the earliest Bradford I have around the area of Bradford's Neck is Nathaniel Bradford, whose Will was proven November 19, 1690 in Accomac County, VA. In his Will are mentioned only his wife, Joane and one child, William. [1] :If will was proved 1690, why does this profile have the date of death as 1720?
After the death of Alice, Nathaniel married Joan (Jeane) Franklin, sister of Henry Franklin of Northumberland County, by whom he had a son John. She and William Bradford, his son and heir were granted letters of administration on his estate, 18 November 1690. compiled by Glenn Bray 1999
