I have reason to believe that my grandmother Elizabeth B. Taylor's line came into this country later and by the 1880's.
My 2x great grandfather - Walter Eli or Edwards Taylor born 1870-1943: parents hailed from England and Ireland. I kept hitting a wall with Walter's parents and now things are beginning to make sense.
I found my Walter E. Taylor on a 1880 census and he stated that he was 12 years of age. He lied. He was 10 years of age and living in a boarding house in Baltimore, MD and it would appear on his own, His job description was labeled (errand boy) and the boarding house was off of High Street, East Side, Baltimore, MD.
I have not found any record of his parents in the U.S.
I have no idea if he was an orphan or a runaway.
Walter Eli or Edward Taylor married a Ica "Dora" Morgart - Dec. 28, 1890 = Walter would have been 20 years old.
I have found them together per the 1900-1910 census records and so on.
My 1x great grandfather - Arthur Walter Taylor 1893-1978 per the 1920 census lists the following
      Arthur 35
Mamie 33 - this is her nickname - her real name is Mary
Bernice 11 - this is my grandmother's middle name - aka - Elizabeth Bernice Taylor Carter 1918-2002 and Bernice was also my mother's middle name.
      Ruth L. 9
There is a child missing per the 1920 census - Virginia W. Taylor - she died from lockjaw from stepping on a nail when she was 5 years old.
Virginia died May 11, 1914 to the best of my knowledge. They moved from Washington District of Columbia to Chillum, Prince George, MD
I also found per a census records that a Amanda Margart - correct spelling is "Morgart" (1839-1920) - age 81 was living with my Taylor family and she was the mother to Ica "Dora" Morgart Taylor. This is coming together now. I recall my grandmother telling me a story when I was very young that her Taylor's came through Ellis Island?? and that the informant couldn't pronounce their name but asked what they did for a living = tailor. I had thought that maybe my grandmother was confused in this regard BUT it looks like she finally got something right.
