He was the son of Martha (Havens) and a veteran of the Colonial War.
NICHOLAS GARDINER, 5 (Nicholas, 4; Nicholas, 3; Nicholas, 2; George, 1), was born March 2, 1738, and died June 6, 1815. He married, in 1757, Honor Brown, a daughter of Beriah Brown, who was, for forty years, sheriff of North Kingstown. She was born May 10, 1740, and died August 19, 1760, leaving no issue. He married, second, October 19, 1762, in Exeter, Deborah Vincent, who was born in 1740, and died May 23, 1813. He married, third, Ruth Tillinghast. There were, possibly, no children by third wife.

Elizabeth Gardiner, b April 10, 1767, d June 10, 1776.
Nicholas Gardiner, b Aug. 11, 1769, d 1821, in Floyd, N. Y., having had a large family.
Beriah Gardiner, b Nov. 16, 1771, d Feb. 12, 1853. m Phebe, who died April 3 (6?), 1808, in her 36th year. He married, second, Elizabeth Hammond, who died Sept. 1, 1863, aged 76 years.
Willet Gardiner, was born Feb. 13, 1774, and died, in 1856, in Moravia, N. Y. He married Abigail, a daughter of Daniel Gardiner, Dec. 15, 1797.
Elizabeth Gardiner, was born Oct. 6, 1776, and married, Nov. 3, 1796, Clarke Sisson; a son of Rodman, of Richmond.
Benjamin Champlin Gardiner, was born April 27, 1779, and died in Wickford, R. I., in 1858.
