    • It is believed that Henry Barksdale was twice married before his arrival in Henry County. Both of his wives bore the Christian name of Judith. No documentary evidence as to their surnamessurvives; however, from the given names of his sons, it appears probable that the first wife was a Dudley or a Claiborne, and the second was Beverley, or at least they were connected with these families in some way....

    2. [S63] Peyton Carter.
I am really trying to research the Carter family. Jean Morton was first married to John Carter on July 5, 1768. She married Claiborne Barksdale on May 10, 1778, after John Carter died in late 1777. According to John Carter's will, he had three brothers: Thomas, James, and Robert. Robert marries Patty Barksdale in Charlotte Co., VA on Nov. 26, 1774. Both Thomas and James seem to reside in Prince Edward County. Thomas, whom I think was Under-Sheriff of that county, married Sarah Martin on May 24, 1764. I am not sure what became of James.

Pattie Barksdale married Robert Carter in Charlotte Co., VA 26 Nov 1774. John Carter's wife married Claiborne Barksdale in Charlotte Co., VA It is reasonable to assume that 2 Carter brothers married related Barksdales. Pattie is of an age to be the daughter of Henry and since Robert married 2nd to a SHARP in S. Carolina, it is reasonable that she died prior to the will of her father, Henry.
