      Mary was married to Henry in the true Quaker custom. Among the witnesses to their marriage were her parents, her brother William, Jr. and his wife Lydia; and her brother John and his wife Prudence.
      FIRST GENERATION
      1. William KNIGHT II was born in 1718 in Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. He was christened on 2 Nov 1718 in Philadelphia, Co., Pennsylvania. He died in 1783 in W Nottingham Twp, Cecil Co, Maryland. He was buried in Cecil Co., Maryland. Don Thomson sent copy of William's will.
      Per Susanna Robins, William was a Quaker Tanner. Her notes say he was b 1710, m 1744. Chester Co tax rolls 1739 & 40 described him as a tanner. His properties were named "Tanner's Lot" and "Knight's Field"--later owned by Wm Jr. Chester Co Probates re Wm Knight: II 266, IV 248, 342; V 325; VII 104
      Davy McCall researcher said their 2-story brick house was still standing in 1978; it has a stone in the gable with the initials W & EK 1745, located on a part of original lot #11 initially owned by Joel Bayley. Farm is on edge of W Nottingham Twp bisected by the Great Road leading from Christiana, just to the w of new Castle to Bald Friar Ferry (early ferry over Susquehanna River) located just below the MA/PA border. Witness along with Timothy Kirk & John Gartril 1747\8 will Samuel Brown (Exec Henry Reynold). 1753 taxable Chester Co 1756 witness for will Rachel Gatchell widow of Elisha 1772 witness for will of Thomas Rogers of W Nottingham. He was married to Elizabeth ROGERS before 1739 in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. Elizabeth ROGERS died on 18 Mar 1789 in Nottingham Twp, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. She was buried in W Nottingham Hun, Chester Co, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth moved to Chester Co PA after her husband's death. Elizabeth Knight was named in will of her father, Thomas Rogers.       SECOND GENERATION

      2. John KNIGHT died on 19 Nov 1805. Married Prudence Reynolds 17 Feb 1778 Cecil Co MD. In Wm Knight's will John received tract of land where he lived if he paid off a 100 pound bond & interest fa owed Joseph Rogers or 2nd choice of having the home dwelling place for 1000 pounds paying the first 500 pounds to his brother Thomas. When Wm died John had a son Wm who was to receive 1/2 proceeds from 40 1/2 acres to be sold in New Garden; his 2 youngest children received 5 pounds. 1790 census was in Nottingham Hundred Cecil Co with 1 male over 16, 4 under 16 & 6 females. They may have had 9 or more children. He was married to Prudence REYNOLDS on 17 Feb 1778 in Cecil Co., Maryland. John KNIGHT and Prudence REYNOLDS had no known children.
      3. Elizabeth KNIGHT was born about 1740 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. She died on 3 Jan 1812 in E. Nottingham Twp., Chester Co., Pennsylvania. She was buried on 5 Jan 1812 in E. Nottingham Twp., Chester Co., Pennsylvania. Married Rev William Brown Feb 1758 in E Nottingham Twp. William d 13,3,1794 buried Brick Meetinghouse Graveyard, aged 61. Elizabeth d 3,1,1812 buried E. Nottingham 5th day. Their children: William (d 1776 when thrown from a horse), Susanna 1763 (m
      Eli Kirk & is b Brick Meeting House MD), Elizabeth 1765 (d 1767), Judith 1768 (m Simeon Woodrow), Abigail 1770 (d 1775), Deborah 1772 (m Joshua Brown), Elijah 1775 (d 1775), Phoebe 1776 (m Samuel Wilson), Elizabeth 1779 (m Sanuel Brown) & Daniel 1782(d 1793). All inherited 5pounds from Wm Sr. except Daniel who hadn't been born.
      She was married to William BROWN Reverend in Feb 1758 in E. Nottingham Twp., Chester Co., Pennsylvania. William BROWN Reverend died in 1794. Elizabeth KNIGHT and William BROWN Reverend had no known children.
      4. William KNIGHT III was born in 1749 in Cecil Co., Maryland. He died on 19 Nov 1805 in Cecil Co., Maryland. In 1765 the Mason-Dixon line was established. Part of Chester Co PA became Cecil Co MD. Letters of Adm 19 Nov 1805 Cecil Co MD Land sale to Wm Ramsey 9 May 1817 Cecil Co MD, Pg 189 Futhy & Cope William Knight taxable in New Garden Twp Chester Co PA for 1774; Pg 198 John Knight & William Knight taxables in W Nottingham Twp
      Chester Co PA A grandson, Wm Knight lived in Norriton Twp Montgomery Co PA. An article indicated that Wm Knight emigrated from England (probably not true), settled in Cecil Co, owner of 1000 acres, ranked as leading agriculturalists of the co. He was married to Lydia BARRETT on 30 Dec 1769 in Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. Marriage also listed as 23 Nov 1769 Lydia BARRETT was born on 30 Jul 1749 in E. Nottingham Twp., Chester Co., Pennsylvania. She died in 1826 in Cecil Co., Maryland. IGI lists Jul as bd; another source lists Sep Named in will of fa Thomas Barrett 1781 of E Nottingham, Chester Co. After William d Lydia m Jesse Brown (prior to 1814). In 1814 she & Jesse
      went to court to sign over her share of "Tanner's Lot" & "Knight Fields" for $70. Wm Knight was accused of illegally acquiring these lots by his brother John and brother Thomas Knight's widow in 1799 and May 1802. Children of William KNIGHT III and Lydia BARRETT were:

      5. Thomas KNIGHT died on 10 Mar 1788 in Cecil Co., Maryland. Married Mary Walmsley 14 Nov 1759 in Byberry, Philadelphia County, PA.
      Susanna Robins notes say he m Mary Taylor.
      Thomas mentioned as son of Wm in minutes of E Nottingham Preparative meeting in 1771-72. He left home before he was of age, didn't attend meetings. He wanted to remove to Baltimore Co away from Friends. Henry Reynolds & Wm Haines counseled him. He agreed to be more careful to take advice. Jul
      1763 requested a certificate to Sadsbury Meeting in s Chester Co; appeared in tax records there. Was deceased when fa's estate in Orphan Court March 1792 Cecil Co. In 1783 fa willed him the home place for 500 pounds. If he didn't want it, John could have it for 1000 pounds giving him the first 500 pounds. If neither wanted it, it was to be sold & Thomas to receive 500 pounds. Thomas conveyed the land to John. Thomas was also to have some timber in the nw corner of the meadow. By 1799 Thomas' widow, Mary, was married to John Rawlins as shown in court documents in controversy over property in the will. There was a son William who was to receive half the proceeds of 40 1/2 acres in New Garden when he came of age. Probably had more children because the words "deceased's representatives" were used in 1792. He was married to Mary WALMSLEY on 14 Nov 1759 in Byberry, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. Thomas KNIGHT and Mary WALMSLEY had no known children.
      6. Judith KNIGHT was born in 1746 in Nottingham Twp, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. She died on 27 Nov 1820 in Nottingham Twp, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. Married Joseph Kirk 8 June 1769 Nottingham Twp, Chester Co Pennsylvania. Children recorded Nottingham MM: Elizabeth, Sarah, Mary, Judith, Ann, Deborah, William, Susanna. Received 5 pounds in fa's will as did the first 6 children. Abel Knight book says she d in Fayette Co PA.
      Ancestor of Jerrye Gates; Mr/Mrs Ralph Hayes; Lois Ralston. A Mr Rochelle descends from Deborah Kirk who m Abraham Farrington 1799 Fayette Co PA.
      Abraham Farrington was a shoemaker, farmer, & a Quaker minister of Columbiana co OH. She was married to Joseph KIRK on 8 Jun 1769 in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. Judith KNIGHT and Joseph KIRK had no known children. Sarah KNIGHT died on 5 Dec 1832. Married Levi Bailey in 1774 by a Presbyterian minister--they were disowned. Several of their children were mentioned in Wm Knight's will. Levi Bailey was to pay the 100 pounds he owed Wm to his son Knight Bailey. William Bailey was to receive the residue of the tract of land after the division to Thomas Knight. If Wm Bailey did not reach full age it was to go to Joeremiah Bailey; if neither survived it was to go to Levi Bailey their father. The list of children seems to be Knight, William, Joermiah, Elizabeth, Levi, Mary, Lydia, Hannah. Levi Bailey d in 1809. Sonja Hayes descends from the dau Lydia Bailey. Jeremiah m Hannah Woodward, William m Phebe Woodward, Levi m Ann harrison, Knight m Ruth Peirce, Elizabeth m George Jackson, Mary m Samuel Gause, Lydia m Thomas Ward, Hannah m Charles Bailey. She was married to Levi BAILEY in 1774. Sarah KNIGHT and Levi BAILEY had no known children.
      8. Anne KNIGHT was born on 20 Jul 1757. She died on 20 Jun 1836. Married Elijah Churchman in 1775. He was son of William & Abigail Brown Churchman.
      Ann received 60 pounds from her fa's estate; each of her 4 children received 5 pounds upon reaching full age. The Churchman family were early settlers
      of the Nottingham lots. She was married to Elijah CHURCHMAN in 1775. Anne KNIGHT and Elijah
      CHURCHMAN had no known children.
      9. Mary KNIGHT. Married Henry Reynolds 15 April 1779 as recorded in Nottingham MM. Mary received 15 pounds from her fa's estate. Their two children received 5 pounds each. Children as recorded in Nottingham MM: Jacob, William, Rebecca, Sarah, Mary, Henry, Israel Francinea. Henry was son
      of Jacob & Rebecca Day Reynolds. Jacob was a son of Henry Reynolds Jr. and Hannah Brown. Hannah was daughter of William & Catherine Williams Brown. The Reynolds family were early settlers of the Nottingham Lots. Henry Reynolds Sr had m Prudence Clayton at Burlington MM 10th 11th mo 1678.
