      Subject:

Image 1816 second page of Poval's will. Looks like it was signed Poval Carter so he may have written the will himself. Younger children Ann, Molly and Robert are mentioned on this page to have items after wife's death.

Note The Witness to the will Obadiah Smith is Son Giles Carter's father-in-Law. Giles Married Mary Smith and had several sons that settled in the Richmond area. Paul Jesperson's wife is a descendant of this family and there is another descendant who tested his dna on 23 and me. The test was supposed to indicate R1a1a....haven't seen these results. Jesperson was supposed to have a male ancestor to be tested, but I don't think he ever did.

Image pc001 Is an administrators account of Poval Carter Son of Daniel Carter concerning the Will of Daniel Carter Son John (B) Carter who lived on an adjoining farm witnessed the Will. John and Susannah were not named in the will Daniel was more concerned with his unmarried daughters . Daniel's life Jane was deceased by the time of the will.

To wife Amey, use of three negroes for life, livestock and items.
Children to be supported out of estate until of age.
To son Giles, negro man, 2 cows, feather bed
To son Robert, land where I live, after my wife?s death
To son William, feather bed and negro
To daughter Ann, feather bed and negro
To daughter Moley, feather bed and negro
Wife Amey and son Giles to be executors
      Wit: Obediah Smith, William Johnson
      Recorded 3 Aug 1761
      Notes:
Obadiah Smith is Poval's Daughter in Law's Father
    • We know that Poval Carter of Henrico County had a son Robert from his LWT recorded on page 1815 of Volume 4 of the Miscellaneous Records of Henrico Co., Va. This will recites " Item, I give & Bequeath this Land & houses where I now live after the death of my Wife to my son Robert to him & his heirs. " We also know that this Robert Carter was born after 1744 because he was under 21 years of age when in May 1765 Robert, orphan of Poval Carter, was bound out by Henrico Parish churchwardens. [HCOB 1763-1767/454]. This makes this Robert Carter of the appropriate age to be a candidate for the Robert Carter, in Henrico, to marry Susannah Evans in Goochland.

Here is some information that may help someone on this line I have Wilson Carter married to Sarah Davis in Cumberland Co. Dec 2 1815. Sarah Davis's parents were Jesse Davis and Elizabeth Guthrey (Guthrie) I also have seen listed that he was married to a Mary Taylor but I have not seen a marriage date or place. Below is some info on at least one Child and Wilson Carter and then info on some of his cousin's the Brooklyn Carter's were probably in the same area as Tarleton Woodson's Brooklyn plantation in Prince Edward County.
