      In the name of God Amen. June the Eleventh day in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred sixty three I THOMAS RUCKER of Brumfield Parish in the County of Culpeper having my sound and perfect sense of mind and memory .. First and principally I bequeath my soul to the almighty God that gave it me and my body to the earth to be burled in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor. I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son JOHN RUCKER all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Culpeper County and between CORNELIUS RUCKER's line, PETER RUCKER's line, ( ) line, Thomas Rucker's Junr. his line and the road that now is part of the land he now lives on to him and his heirs forever.
      I give and bequeath unto my beloved son GEORGE RUCKER the land and Plantation I now live it being bounded by the road that now is THOMAS RUCKER JUNR. his line, the river and WILLIAM CRAFORDS line which said land and plantation I give to my son George and his heirs forever.
      But and in case my son JOHN RUCKER should die without heir that then his part as above mentioned shall be and I give the same unto my son WILLIAM RUCKER and If in the like case my son George Rucker should die without heir that then the part laid off for him as above mentioned shall be and I give the same to my son MALDIN RUCKER, the above two parcels of land shall belong to his said sons William and Maldin and their heirs forever if either of the forementioned John Rucker and George Rucker should die without heirs as above mentioned.

      Peter (Immigrant) Rucker had 10 children, most were born in the old country. His wife and six of their children arrived several years later.
      Born in Germany. Fled with his father and family from Germany or France during the uprising between Catholic and Protestants in 1685 to 1700. After a short stay in England, they were sent to the colonies. Was preceded in colonies by his two sons, John and Thomas.
      Many Huguenots were naturalized by proclamation in 1702. Peter was issued naturalization papers in 1704. Since he had not been a resident long enough to qualify without special application, which was read and presented to the House of Burgesses 4/24/1704. He settled in Essex Country, Virginia, which was later Spottsylvania County (Spottsylvania was formed from Essex, King William, and King and Queen Counties in 1720. Orange County was formed from Spottsylvania County in 1734).

      John (Immigrant) Rucker I, Had 12 children.
      Patented land for Rucker Chapel in 1745.
      Settled in Orange County and gained title to 5850 acres that include what is now Sweet Briar College. Granted by Earl, the King of England.
      In the year 1700 four shiploads carrying seven hundred passengers sailed from Gravesend, England, for the journey to the colonies. Landed in Jamestown 1700. John and brother Thomas were the leaders of the passengers. The vessel in which John was sailing was wrecked in Jamestown Bay off the coast of Virginia and john floated for three days on a piece of driftwood, being picked up by a passing vessel.

      Took patents of land which prove they had brought over other settles or had done something for the commonwealth. At that time, no settler could take up over 50 acres though he could buy 100, unless he had earned the privilege of a larger patent, which seems to prove that they had headed the passengers coming with them.
      Naturalized in 1702 by Proclamation.
      With John Lightfoot established St. Mark's Parish, in Orange County (now Greene County). Scott, in his History of Orange, says "John Lightfoot and John Rucker were ordered to pitch on a place near some good spring" in 1731. Scott ways this is the old church near Ruckersville in Greene County.
      John was a vestryman and very influential member of the church, and he also was a Captain in the Colonial Militia of Orange County in 1740
      In his will he left 1 shilling to his daughter Margaret Smith. He greatly disapproved of her marriage to Isaac Smith.
