Death: Mar. 19, 1903, Reidsville, Rockingham County, North Carolina
      He never married.
He was a Confederate War veteran. He served as a Private in Company G, 53th Virginia Infantry.
He was admitted to the Sub Depot Field Hospital of the Army of the Potomac at Burkeville, VA on April 4, 1865 and returned to duty on April 25, 1865.
He was murdered by a robber at Sadler's Siding near Reidsville, NC.
JOHN BRODNAX HUNG FOR MURDER - REIDSVILLE, NC May 22, 1903.
John Broadnax, who murdered Sidney Blair, an aged and highly esteemed citizen of the Oregon section, was hanged for this crime at Wentworth to-day, at 1:35.
The execution took place in the presence of thirty-odd people and the guards allowed the sheriff by law. Deputy Sheriff J. E. Lambeth sprung the trigger which ended the career of one of the most remarkable murderers known in the history of the county, and the execution was in every way a complete success. Death resulted within twelve minutes after the trap had been thrown, and there was no sign of a struggle of pain to the victim.
Just eleven minutes and fifty-eight seconds had elapsed from the time the trap fell until life was extinguished and the body cut down. The remains were placed in the coffin and brought out for those who were outside to see.
Drs. Matherson and McGehee of Madison, had bought the body, paying three dollars therefor, and it was turned over to them.
Broadnax murdered Blair and shot and wounded Miss Sallie Walker, March 19th.
Note - Sallie Walker Glass, daughter of Julia Frances Bair Walker, was his niece and she was keeping house for him.
