L. Pope, 90, 210 Forrest Court, Rockmart, died in a Rockmart hospital Thursday morning following an extended illness. Pope was born in Gwinnett Co., on 7 Oct 1895. He was a well known evangelist who conducted many revivals in the Floyd County area. A member of the Hopewell Baptist Church Pope was active in church and civic work prior to his illness. Survivors include five daughters; Mrs. Katie Davenport, Silver Creek, Mrs. Mildred Deems, Aragon, Mrs. Virginia Gore, Rockmart, and Mrs. Dorothy Harris, Smyrna and Mrs. Essileen Hooper, Rockmart; Five sons, Luther Pope, Rockmart, Hughie Pope, Ringgold, Bill Carver, Mableton, Alvin Pope, Rockmart and Frank Pope, Washington, DC... (SS Rev L L POPE Lois was a Carter by birth, daughter of Stonewall Jackson Carter and Kate / Katherine V. Patterson. Following SJ.'s death in 1910, she (Kate) remarried Jesse Martin Carver. Kate was his 3rd wife. He was 20 years older than her. Lois was born in 1900, so she was S.J.'s child.
